Living Holistically — Becoming Whole in a Fragmented World

july 14th 2026

By Ken Breen — Intuitive Reiki Master, Infinite Energy Source, Footscray Melbourne

There is something quietly revolutionary about the word whole. In a world that specialises everything — that divides the body from the mind, the mind from the spirit, the personal from the professional, the physical from the energetic — choosing to live as a whole person is an act of quiet, sustained rebellion. Holistic living is not a wellness trend. It is not a diet, a supplement stack, or a morning routine. It is a fundamental orientation — a way of understanding yourself and your life that recognises what the wisest traditions in human history have always known: that you cannot address any one aspect of your being in genuine isolation from the rest. Your body affects your mind. Your mind affects your emotions. Your emotions affect your energy. Your energy affects your relationships, your work, your creativity, your health, your experience of being alive. Every aspect of your existence interpenetrates every other aspect. And when any one of them is neglected, all of them suffer. Holistic living is simply the practice of tending to all of them — with awareness, with love, and with the understanding that you are not a collection of separate problems to be solved, but a whole, magnificent, living being to be honoured.
"He who has health has hope, and he who has hope has everything."
— Thomas Carlyle

The Five Dimensions of Holistic Wellbeing

1. Physical Wellbeing
The body is the vessel through which all of your experience moves. Nourishing it with genuine food, adequate sleep, regular movement, clean water, and time in natural environments is not vanity or obsession — it is basic respect for the instrument through which your entire life is lived.
Holistic physical wellbeing also means listening to the body — treating its symptoms not as inconveniences to be suppressed but as intelligent communications from a system that is constantly, faithfully attempting to maintain balance and health.
2. Emotional Wellbeing
Emotions are not noise. They are data — extraordinarily precise information about your inner state, your needs, your values, and your relationship with your experience. A holistic life includes the capacity to feel, process, and express emotion in healthy ways.
Unprocessed emotion does not disappear. It accumulates in the body, in the energy field, and eventually in physical symptom. The cultivation of emotional intelligence — the ability to feel without being consumed, to express without harm, to process without performance — is one of the most essential skills of a holistic life.
3. Mental Wellbeing
The quality of your inner dialogue shapes the quality of your experience more than almost any external factor. Holistic mental wellbeing includes cultivating conscious awareness, challenging limiting beliefs, managing the mind's natural tendency toward negativity bias, and engaging regularly in creative and intellectually stimulating activity.
4. Energetic and Spiritual Wellbeing
This is the dimension that most conventional healthcare ignores entirely — and its absence from mainstream wellness creates a profound gap. Human beings are energetic beings inhabiting physical bodies. The health of the energy field — the chakra system, the aura, the flow of Ki through the body's energy pathways — directly affects every other dimension of wellbeing.
Spiritual wellbeing does not require any particular religious belief. It requires only the recognition that you are part of something larger than yourself — that your life has meaning, that you are connected to other beings and to the fabric of existence in ways that are real and significant.
5. Social and Relational Wellbeing
Human beings are fundamentally relational creatures. We evolved in community. We are neurobiologically wired for connection. The quality of your relationships — your ability to give and receive love, to communicate authentically, to feel genuinely seen and known by others — is one of the most powerful determinants of both physical and mental health.
The Harvard Study of Adult Development — following participants for over 80 years — concluded that the single greatest predictor of long-term health and happiness is the quality of close relationships. Not wealth, not achievement, not fame. Connection.
"In the end, just three things matter: How well we have lived. How well we have loved. How well we have learned to let go."
— Jack Kornfield

Practical Principles of Holistic Living

Listen before you fix. Before reaching for the supplement, the strategy, or the solution, pause long enough to actually listen to what your body, emotions, or energy are communicating. The message is always more important than the management of the symptom.
Tend the roots. Most symptoms are not the problem — they are the expression of the problem. Holistic living means being willing to go deeper than the surface presentation, to the energetic, emotional, or belief-level roots of what is manifesting.
Nourish proactively. Don't wait until you're in crisis to tend your wellbeing. Regular energy healing, consistent mindfulness practice, ongoing conscious development, and genuine self-care are most effective as proactive practices — not emergency responses.
Honour the interconnection. When one dimension is struggling, look to the others. A physical symptom often has an emotional root. An emotional pattern often has an energetic structure. A relationship difficulty often reflects an inner condition.
Seek whole-person support. A holistic life is nourished by practitioners who see and work with the whole person — not just the symptom, the diagnosis, or the presenting complaint. This is the foundation of the work I offer at Infinite Energy Source: not the treatment of isolated symptoms, but the support of whole, integrated human beings on the full journey of their becoming.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does holistic living mean rejecting conventional medicine? Absolutely not. Holistic living includes discerning use of whatever tools genuinely serve your health — and conventional medicine is an extraordinarily valuable tool for many conditions. The holistic perspective adds dimensions that conventional medicine does not address, and works best in genuine partnership with good medical care.
Where do I begin if I want to live more holistically? Begin with awareness. For one week, simply notice — without judgement — how you are tending to each of the five dimensions. Where is there genuine nourishment? Where is there neglect or avoidance? That honest inventory is more valuable than any programme or protocol.
Is holistic living expensive? The most powerful holistic practices are free or nearly free: conscious breathing, mindful movement, time in nature, genuine connection with others, honest self-reflection, consistent sleep. Professional support adds depth and acceleration, but it is built on a foundation of daily practices that cost nothing.
How does Reiki fit into a holistic lifestyle? Reiki Synergy Sessions work across the physical, energetic, emotional, mental, and spiritual dimensions simultaneously — making them one of the most genuinely holistic healing modalities available. Regular sessions provide the energetic maintenance, deep clearing, and whole-field support that allows every other aspect of a holistic lifestyle to function at its best.

"One session can shift what years of searching could not. Your energy knows the way — I help you listen."
