Remote Reiki — How Does Distance Healing Actually Work?

It is the question I am asked most often by people who have never experienced remote healing. "How can Reiki possibly work if I'm not in the room with you?" It's a fair question — and it deserves a real answer. Not a dismissal. Not a vague appeal to mystery. A genuine explanation of what remote Reiki is, why it works, and what the experience is actually like for the person receiving it from anywhere in the world. Because here is the truth: some of the most profound healing work I have witnessed in my practice has happened with clients I have never met in person — people sitting in a quiet room in Sydney, or London, or California — while I am in Footscray. Distance is not a barrier to this work. Here's why.

The Ancient Understanding — Energy Has No Boundaries

Every major spiritual and healing tradition in the world recognises that consciousness and energy are not confined to physical space. In Usui Reiki, the ability to send healing energy across distance is known as distant healing, and it forms a core part of Level 2 (Okuden) Reiki training. Practitioners are attuned to the Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen symbol — a Japanese phrase meaning "the Buddha in me contacts the Buddha in you" — which is specifically used to transmit healing energy across space and time. This is not new age speculation. It is a practice that has been refined and passed down through the Reiki lineage from Dr. Mikao Usui for over a century. The underlying principle is one that is also beginning to find expression in modern physics: everything is energy, and energy is not limited to the constraints of the physical world. Quantum entanglement — the phenomenon in which two particles, once connected, respond to each other instantaneously regardless of the distance between them — offers a framework for understanding how this is possible at a subatomic level. When I connect with a client's energy field remotely, I am connecting with the same field I would connect with in person. The field is not in the room. The room is in the field.

What Actually Happens in a Remote Reiki Synergy Session

Here is how a remote session with me works, practically: Before the session: You book via Calendly and we connect on Zoom at the scheduled time. We have a brief conversation — the same conversation I would have with you in person. I ask about what you're carrying, what you're hoping for, and what's been present for you energetically. During the session: I ask you to find a comfortable, private space — lying on a bed, a couch, or the floor, with the lights low and your phone on silent. You leave the Zoom open, but you don't need to watch the screen. I work with your energy field from my studio in Footscray, using the same modalities I would use in person — Reiki Usui, Chakra Balancing, Crystal Bowl and Sound Healing frequencies, Breath Activation, DNA Activations, Shamanic Visions, and more. I work intuitively, reading your field in real time and responding to what I find. After the session: I bring you back gently, and we debrief — I share what I observed, what I worked with, and what I sensed moving. You share what you experienced from your end.

What Clients Experience in Remote Sessions

The feedback from remote sessions is, consistently, this: "I can't believe how real that felt." People describe:
  • Feeling heat or warmth moving through their body — specifically in the areas I am working with, without knowing where I am focusing
  • Tingling, pulsing, or waves of energy

Is Remote Reiki as Effective as In-Person?

In my direct experience: yes. I have worked with hundreds of clients remotely — across Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Europe, and beyond. The depth of what becomes available in remote sessions is consistently equal to what happens in the studio. The energy does not know the difference. What matters is the practitioner's ability to hold a clear, open channel — and the client's willingness to receive. If anything, some people find it easier to surrender into a remote session because they are in a space where they already feel safe.
